Moles and other skin lesions can change for many reasons. A specialist assessment helps determine whether monitoring, biopsy or treatment is appropriate.
The consultation considers the appearance and history of the lesion, relevant risk factors and any symptoms or recent changes.
If a biopsy or removal is recommended, reception will arrange the correct procedure and appointment time.

What to know
Look for change, not just size.
A mole may need assessment because it is new, changing, symptomatic or simply looks different from your other moles. Photographs showing change over time can be helpful when available.

Will every concerning mole be removed?
No. Depending on the examination, the dermatologist may recommend monitoring, photography, biopsy or removal.
Is this a full-body mole check?
This is normally a focused assessment of the suspicious mole or skin lesion you are concerned about, rather than a routine full-body mole check. If the examination raises concern, a biopsy may be recommended to confirm the diagnosis. If you want a broader skin check, please discuss this with reception when booking.
